Yes. Most of you understand that when we are talking about English spoken in England we are referring to English! Not British English! There's no such thing as British English! You might have Scottish English... but that's another story... it is English & American English! Aint no British about it. Get back to the good ol' days when you could say England and mean the whole of the British Isles... but that's another Qi episode.

British English is the term commonly used to describe the English spoken/used in the UK. It's been a good long while since the term England referred to the whole British Isles (and I believe that was covered on QI).Do consider those in the Republic of Ireland (for that matter, some in NI) who object to being grouped in the British Isles...regardless that it is a geographical term, not political.There is a huge English speaking world, including the dialects of NZ, Australia,Canada among others.

Ah, even so I would say that the 'British' is in fact needed. I learned the hard way that the word for cake in Puerto Rican spanish is quite the nasty word in Mexican spanish.

To say that English only refers to the language of England is a mistake because there is not one form of English spoken in England. There's the Southwestern dialect, the Cockney dialect, the dialects of North Umbria, etc. Also, there are the dialects that were more affected by Norse influence and dialects more affected by French, but being the linguist you seem to be I assume you knew that already. There is no one standard form of English, unless you refer to RP, which is totally artificial.
