The people who use the metaphysics of martyrdom as justification for murder are vengeful and hateful, if they didn't have an ambiguous holy book to guide them they would find some other justification.Because the holy books can be interpreted so wildly people can use them to justify anything. For example the hijab and such is a good idea to protect women in principle, but corrupt mysogynistic men have turned it around to treat women like livestock.

How can you be sure they would kill anyway? Don't you think that belief in an afterlife makes it a lot easier to be a martyr, such as a suicide bomber? In my opinion when hate, predjudice, and murder are in the holy literature a culture worships, it tends to enable those traits in the people.

I think most of the hateful religious people would leave much calmer lives if their hate wasn't celebrated by local interpretations of their religion, and therefore, celebrated by their culture. If their religion preached strongly against suicide, there would be far less suicide bombers.If the holy books could really be interpreted to justify anything, proposition 8 would never have been passed, and the "Moral Majority" would be completely fractured. They wouldn't agree on anything.
